Car finally Fixed

So after about 3 months of trying to figure out the issue with my car. After buying a wideband, fuel controller, plugs, wires, coil, dcr oil mod and few other misc. parts Jacob and I finally figured out what exactly was wrong with my car...... It wasn't the fuel, turbo or exhaust or as PTPerformance told me " it has to be something with the motor." It was an improperly installed o2 housing. It was missing 3 out of the 4 bolts and the last one was finger tight.:stab: So really I just wanted to send PTPerformance a special shout out and say thanks for installing my o2 housing but, next time you might actually want to do it yourself instead of having one of the "kids" do it.

Now, I know for a fact that PTPerformance will deny this and say that I changed the exhaust which in fact is true. Drew and myself swapped exhaust about 2 months ago but, he nor I touched the o2 housing nor did we remove either of the heat shields to bolt the exhaust back up.... I traded exhaust because his exhaust left residue all over my car which I will most likely have to get detailed to fix.

To sum it up I spent a bunch of money trying to fix the car which I don't really have and got fed a bunch of bs cause PTPerformance was too busy and too irritated at me for swapping my exhaust with an FYC person. Pretty much take your business elsewhere unless you like watching "kids" work on your cars.:gay:

There's a much better shop down south "fort lewis" area

i might have to argue something that would be on the ptp side here. it looks like youve upgraded the o2 housing that decided to come loose on ya. its a fairly common problem that many of us have had issues with.

i spent every other day for a few months under the exhaust figuring out how many bolts i had to replace today.. i cant personally explain why, but the o2 housings do not like staying on the manifold. i would jump back under there in a short amount of miles to see if yours are still tight. i tried several different lock washers and went through many many bolts before one day it just seemed to stay tight on all 4s.

you get to figuring out the best way to reach all four bolts rather quickly with a problem like this. my unit is actually a ptp unit but i never mentioned that. originally i wanted to blame it for my problems but others were experiencing the same with different parts. after all its just a hunk of metal that i want four bolts to hold.. it couldnt be the metals fault could it!?

I have heard several people say the same thing about it just being the nature of the beast "o2 housing" but, at the same time he supposively runs a shop that in his opinion does professional quality installs which would intale if in fact this is a common problem that he personally would figure a way to get them to stay tight all the time. Right? Or what is the real point in installing something that he knows will infact come loose sooner or later? Just my 2 cents on the matter. I am just :flame: because he just blamed it on somebody else and said that in wasn't his fault.

It's funny how little things like an aft-turbo exhaust leak can cause this car to do strange shit. Damn this NGC and it's awesomeness.

I went though the came crap..spent a couple hundred bucks to find out it was a faulty 02 sensor. I wouldn't have figured that out without my Scangauge, since it wasn't 'acting' like a bad 02. Funny stuff.

JR's post does carry merit. I remember him complaining about his loose nuts. In fact, I don't recall him shutting up about it. That area takes a lot of heat compared to the rest of the exhaust (except maybe the cat) and the heat cycling most likely causes the material to expand/contract/expand/contract and eventually work loose.

flame fest. many things could have led to the bolts coming loose, vibrations the movement of changing of the exhaust (both exhaust weigh different and have different mounting points. i can not say if the bolts on the o2 housing were torqued down but im pretty sure they were on there tight. i dont no all what happened because i did not do the install, but i dont think you should flame john for all this.

hush you little troll.......

and Ryan, truthfully....this typa shit happens all the time....

with that being said....did john inform that you MUST retighten the bolts after a couple of days driving due to the heat and contracting? I would say that would be his responsibility to inform you of that.....sucks you had to go through all that shit to find out it was only the goddamn o2 housing....take it as a learning experience bruddah.....on another note....we still on for tomorrow?

dude seriously this sucks that this shit happened to you but i know for 100% sure all of the bolts were tight when you left. like everyone said metal expands and shrinks soo i dunno how its on me or ptp that bolts came off at least 4 months or more after we did the install. soo like i said sorry about the situation but im glad you got the car fixed.

Good deal mang, so how is the exhaust now? You like it?

When I got my exhaust from MaxxFab there was a blurb about needing to re-torque all the bolts after a few heat cycles. I did and never had a problem. Been on the car for over 2 years. However, their O2 housing is designed like the stock unit with a mount that braces it against the block, so I dano...

Shitty that you couldn't get any help with it though, that would be frustrating. Next time accept our invitation and get yo ass up here!

I guess some can get it right and tite and other are ???? I am pretty sure I check those on his car but I could be wrong. I have installed many of them and never had this happen. No idea, I am sure I could have figured it out but like I told Ryan, I don't like to work on cars that several people have had there hands on. Just doesn't sit right with me when I find a problem and I have to start blaming others.

Thanks for getting it fixed Jacob, I am sure that made Ryan very happy.

I had to tighten mine after every race before I got a different exhaust with a better flex section. Solid motor mounts, urethane exhaust bushings and no flex joint pwnt my o2 housing. Actually, I broke all my exhaust studs except 1 (which I didn't know until we took the manifold off) Stuff breaks, just because someone installed it doesn't mean you can hold them responsible. That's why I do most of my own installs, then the only person to blame is myself.

On a side note, any aftermarket part is prone to failure, if you didn't want stuff to fall apart:
1. leave everything stock
2. sell your car and buy a Camry

The only person to blame was yourself for not checking them when you put the new exhaust on. If you had the dp off you might as well have checked everything out.

(my opinions are completely objective, I owe no loyalty to any shop in your area, fyc or ptp)

This is why I will never do work on a friends car again and charge them.... oh wait a minute..... you never had to pay for the install that was free.

I did a killer 4" side exit for you and didn't charge you for the install, did all your other parts pretty much free of charge and I get this. Yes find a better shop that will install your parts for free.

Ryan, I told you this was going to happen. You were going to get pissed off at me for things that were out of my control. You swapped the exhaust and the problem started, when the other system was on there none of this was happening. So tell me when the problem stated did someone mess with the o2 housing bolts?

Last thing, I guess this is how friends treat friends hey? Wow, nothing I can say will make this any better. I called you, you made this post. Childish if you ask me, real childish.

Tsk tsk tsk....

Deliberately jumping on a bandwagon to hate on PTP without doing research. That will cause problems. Deal first and hate last. No need to deliberately start shit. There's so much more stuff that can be started elsewhere that's true.

Orly?

Just sayin...

I believe John would have given him the same response whether he traded Andrew for the exhaust or not. He didnt have time/space to work on Jerry's car, None of his grease monkeys cars, nor mine. His neighbors have been complaining about 20 loud neon driving over from 10am -10pm so he just cant work on anyones cars right now couple that with how busy he is making parts and building new ones.
