i was wondering if anyone has had their car wet sanded yet? i know when you get it wet sanded that it takes the inperfections in the paint out, then you have it polished and clearcoated, i've seen it on other cars and it is really shiny, makes the car look wet. is there any pro or cons to this besides that it looks good? i called a body shop in biloxi mississippi, and they will do it for $500.00, that includes wet sanding, polishing/buffing and clearcoating. also any advise on this is welcome.

Of course the pro's are the looks of smooth paint.

The con's on a OEM paint job are thinner paint. Thinner paint = Easier rock chips and road rash from driving. Clearcoat has UV protection in it, and removing the clear (sanding) also reduces that, and the longevity of the paint over time.

Dodge didn't put enough paint on the srt4 to start off with, so i would really advise against it. A nice buff job, with a teflon or polymer sealent should do well.

I am a PPG gold certified refinish technician just to give you an idea of where I am comming from.

BTW, if you got a estimate to have you car clearcoated and sanded/buffed, that sounds a little low on price for a real quality job.

Wet sanding is really the last resort for an OEM paint finish. You don't want to go that route unless you have SERIOUS paint defects.

You would be surprised what you can accomplish with a good polish, glaze and wax/sealant. Go that route before shopping for a paint job.
